Learn more about our Integrated Math Tutoring Program

The Integrated Math curriculum includes Integrated Math 1 (IM1), Integrated Math 2 (IM2), and Integrated Math 3 (IM3). These high school math courses include Geometry, Pre Algebra, Algebra, and Pre-Calculus. They are reorganized so that each class includes pieces from each course. Students taking Integrated Math will have the opportunity to take pieces of these courses every academic year.

Objectives

The primary purpose of an Integrated Math curriculum is to ensure students are allowed to see the connections between different mathematics courses.

A secondary purpose is to give students a better chance at passing the comprehensive math test in Junior year. Taking parts of all these branches of math allows students to continue to practice and get familiar with all the concepts from an earlier stage.

Advantages

Students who plan on taking the ACT or SAT may also benefit from an Integrated Math curriculum. Traditionally, students who don’t take accelerated math can expect to take Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2.

However, many students plan to take the ACT/SAT at the start of Junior year. In this case, they might not have a chance to complete all Algebra 2 materials that would be on the test. Since Integrated Math includes all mathematics branches, students will at the very least have a passing familiarity with these topics.

Common Challenges In Integrated Math

  1. Connecting Concepts: Integrated math often involves complex, multifaceted concepts that can be challenging to understand. Students may struggle to grasp the connections between different mathematical concepts and how they relate to each other.
  2. Cumulative Learning: Math courses tend to build upon previous concepts and skills learned. This means that students must have a solid foundation in earlier topics to succeed in later ones. Students who fall behind in the course may struggle to catch up.
  3. Abstraction: Some integrated math concepts can be abstract and difficult to apply in real-world situations. This can make it challenging for students to see the relevance of what they are learning.
  4. Lack of foundational skills: Some students may have gaps in their foundational math skills, which can make it difficult to understand more advanced concepts.

Overall, integrated math can be a challenging course for many students. However, with dedication, hard work, and effective study habits, students can overcome these challenges and succeed in the course.
