How our AP Chemistry tutors create results
Common Challenges AP Chemistry Students Face
AP Chemistry is a rigorous course that covers a wide range of topics in chemistry. Some common challenges:
- Chemical Nomenclature: AP Chemistry requires students to learn the names and formulas of a wide range of chemicals. Students may struggle with this, particularly when there are variations in naming conventions.
- Memorization: Students may struggle to memorize a significant amount of information, including multiple formulas, equations, and chemical reactions.
- Application of Concepts: Students must apply concepts to real-world situations. This may be a struggle if they have not had much experience with real-world applications of chemistry.
- Complex Problem Solving: Students must apply multiple concepts and equations to solve a problem. It may be a challenge to break down complex problems into smaller parts and determine which concepts and equations to apply.
- Math Skills: AP Chemistry involves a lot of math such as algebra, calculus, and logarithms. Students who struggle with math may find it difficult to understand and apply the mathematical concepts in chemistry.

Chemistry Homework Help
Many students struggle with the rigorous coursework and complex problem sets, but with tutoring, they have access to a knowledgeable tutor who can guide them through difficult concepts and provide detailed explanations. Homework help ensures that students fully understand the material and can confidently tackle assignments on their own, leading to better grades and a deeper understanding of the subject.
Clarifying Key Concepts
When it comes to understanding complex chemistry concepts, it’s not uncommon for students to feel overwhelmed and confused. Our tutors help by breaking down these concepts into smaller, more manageable parts that students can easily digest. The tutor can also tailor their explanation to the student’s learning style, taking into account their strengths and weaknesses. For example, visual aids, such as molecular models or illustrations, allow students to see how the chemical reaction occurs on a molecular level.
EXAM PREPARATION
AP Chemistry exams are notoriously challenging, and students who are not adequately prepared may struggle to earn a passing score. Our tutors help students develop effective study plans, review material, and provide practice questions and exams to help them prepare. With personalized feedback, students can focus their efforts on specific weaknesses and improve their overall performance.

What is the AP Chemistry Exam?
What is the AP Chemistry Exam?
Most high schools offer AP Chemistry. Students can receive college credit for the course and/or the opportunity to take more advanced college courses. AP Chemistry is comparable to both a lecture course and a lab course in college. It will provide your future college student with useful knowledge and a head start.
In order to receive college credits for this course, students are encouraged to earn a score of 3 or higher.
How is the AP Chemistry test scored?
Sections 1 and 2 are both scored using computers, selected college professors, and expert AP Chemistry teachers. They are all combined to create the composite score. Each student’s composite score is then converted into a 1-5 scoring system.
Students who get a score of 3, 4, or 5 will be able to submit their test results to prospective universities. However, many colleges will only accept a 4 or 5, especially competitive ones. This score provides students with college chemistry credit and/or advanced placement in future courses at those schools.
How long is the exam?
The duration of the Advanced Placement Chemistry exam is 3 hours and 15 minutes. It is divided into two parts: a multiple-choice section and a free-response section.
What do I need to know?
Students are expected to apply the cumulative knowledge from their AP Chemistry class to accurately answer the questions. The exam will evaluate understanding of the four big ideas from the course:
- Scale, Proportion, and Quantity
- Structure and Properties
- Transformations
- Energy
AP Chemistry Exam Format
The College Board ensures the AP Chemistry Exam has consistent question types, scoring guidelines, and weighting. This way you and your student know what to expect on the day of the exam.
Starting from the Spring 2023 exam, a scientific or graphic calculator is recommended for both sections of the exam, per the AP Exam Calculator Policy.
section 1
There are 60 questions divided into individual questions and sets of questions that refer to the same diagram or data presentation.
This part of the test counts as 50% of the exam score.
Students have 90 minutes to complete Section 1.
Section 2
There are 7 questions divided into 3 long-answer (10 points each) and 4 short answer (4 points each) questions.
This part of the test counts as 50% of the exam score.
Students have 105 minutes to complete Section 2.
